Our facilitators will help you support each other each week by teaching some communication skills, guiding the conversation, and coaching.
Motivation should be effortless.
Think about a child. Nobody needs to teach a child to be curious and explore the world - they just are. Kids are naturally driven towards action. They don't think in terms of success or failure. They just want to express themselves and be creative. And now here we are as adults, feeling stuck and unmotivated. What happened?
Many of us were taught particular lessons in life. I'm a burden. I'm smart. I'm stupid. I need to be perfect. I have so much potential!
Sometimes these expectations are so strongly ingrained, that we view them as our own. Sometimes we even hold them so dear that they define our self-worth. The thing is, this is just stuff the world taught us. It's not real. But over time, to avoid feeling shame, we learn to bury who we are and what we really care about, and allow these expectations to define us.
Before we know it, life becomes about survival. We try so hard to live to these standards. But no matter how hard we try, it's never enough. It's an unwinnable game.
Maybe it's time to start playing by your own rules...
Join the CommunityWhy join?
- You're feeling stuck in life and none of the usual advice seems to be helping.
- You want to better understand how your mind works.
- You want to level up your emotional awareness and understanding.
- You want to improve your social skills and form deeper and more meaningful connections with others.
- You want to support others (and perhaps learn how to do so more effectively).
- You want to meet people who will make an effort understand what you're going through instead of trying to 'fix' you.
What are groups like?
All groups are run by 1-2 volunteer facilitators, most of whom started off as members in our groups and wanted to give back to the community. They'll focus on helping group members support each other by teaching communication skills, helping conversations run smoothly, and making sure any issues are addressed. In general facilitators refrain from offering advice or guidence, but they will contribute by asking questions and helping you reflect on your own thought process and emotions.
What we strive to offer in each group is a space in which you can
- Be heard and understood
- Form meaningful connections with other group members
- Learn to better understand yourself
- Improve your communication skills
- Support others in the group and let them support you
Who can join?
Our groups are open to people from any walks of life. All we ask is that you
- Make a commitment to show up consistently and be on time every week
- Respect your group's rules and boundaries
- Are looking to actively work towards improving your life
- Want to talk about your struggles and open up to others
- Understand that this is peer support and not therapy. We can't diagnose, provide therapy or any kind of medical treatment. Certain topics might also be off-limits.
(Pay What You Want)
For those wanting more focused 1-on-1 support, some of our volunteers offer individual coaching sessions. This is also a way for us to fundraise towards running costs for the organization, further support and training for facilitators, and more subsidized or free services for the community.
Why 1-on-1?
- You like our mission and want to support us
- You like what our facilitators do in group and want more individual attention
- You're looking to do more focused and structured work
- You feel like group doesn't move quickly enough for you or there isn't enough time to talk about your topics every week
